The Beginner’s Bible Review

I get to review another classic! My kids grew up with and loved this Bible filled with typically chosen Bible stories for children, so it’s fun that I can review it and give away two copies, especially right before Christmas, so they can be given to two more children as presents.

I really don’t have anything critical to say about this Bible. I can tell you what I like about it, though! I like that it has more stories in it than many of the children’s Bibles I’ve looked at and reviewed (and I’ve looked at quite a few). Where many a children’s Bible might have 35-50 stories, this Bible has more than 90, making it more comprehensive than most.

My kids and I have all enjoyed the illustrations, too. Some children’s Bibles’ drawings are a little strange, but the cartoon characters that inhabit the pages of the Beginner’s Bible are cute and fun for kids to look at while the story is being read to them. Every page has a large colorful picture, often more than half filling it.

In addition, I haven’t tried it yet, but apparently ZonderKidz has put out a free iPad app with stories, audio, and games to go along with this Bible. It seems like that would be a good way to help kids become more interested in the Bible.

Most importantly, I’ve never found a theological issue in this Bible, which I couldn’t say for all the children’s Bibles I’ve reviewed. I imagine it must be challenging to paraphrase Scripture in such a way that a child can understand and be engaged without making any mistakes in the translation. The authors were able to pull it off with this one.

There’s a good reason that more than 25 million copies have been sold of this Bible storybook. It’s just solid, fun, and great for kids. It would truly be a beloved Christmas present for any young child.
